I am trying to catch up on my Library 2.0 lessons. I actually have been using RSS feeds for a while now, but neglected to post about them. I found that it really saves me checking every day for new information in some of my more obscure genealogical searches. Also, I have enjoyed following current news stories of interest. I can see that a library could set up their own blog to be accessed by patrons through an RSS feed, notifying them of timely new information. I can also see RSS feeds being very useful to help a patron discover items very quickly regarding a subject they are researching. Well, it's on to the next lesson!

FLICKR

I love Flickr! I haven't posted a picture yet, but may choose one that is a premade one. At first it was not clear to me how this tool could apply to a library situation. After discussions at our brownbag lunch, it was brought up that this is a networking tool that students are already using. I can see that this may be a way for a library to improve its outreach.

social networking

I never thought of a library or a business having its own blog. I especially got a kick out of reading the age and gender columns for the various institutions (treating them as though they were a person). Web 2.0 is hard to describe because I get the idea that it is a fluid thing that can change according to the need or desire. A combination of words and multimedia can be used to generate interest and express thoughts. I think that Library 2.0 would be a way to reach and help library patrons in a new and easily accessible way.
